Unfortunately one of our two female chipmunks died unexpectedly this week.  We're really worried that the other will be very lonely, as it seems distressed.  What's the best thing to do?  Will it get used to being alone or should we look for a new companion?

Hi there, I recently lost my boy suddenly too and candy was distressed that he was gone. We did go and get her another male and now she seems very happy and confident again.

The only thing I would suggest is that you do what feels right for you and your chipmunk. Don't rush into it if you don't feel ready. Maybe see how she goes over the next few days and see if she calms down, if not then there would be no problem with getting another one. How old is she? If you were to think about getting another one just be prepared to have to introduce them to each other slowly and check how they get on.

I am very sorry for you loss I know exactly how you feel. Good luck x
