Male chipmiunk won't stop humping
« on: May 30, 2010, 02:10:29 PM »
My 8-9 month old male chipmunk called Chippy who won't stop humping my new female, Toffee. She's really small, even smaller than her sister Cookie. At first Toffee used to resist him but now she just accepts it but squeaks quite a bit. Her sister chases him off every time and has very little problems with him. How do I get this to stop? Should I leave it to continue? Could Toffee be ill or weak as she spends a lot of her time hiding away and has stopped trying to fight him off with as much force as she did yesterday. Her sister, Cookie, spends more time exploring the cage than she does too.  :-\ Will Chippy get sore down below and eventually leave her alone?

A previous post I made a couple of days ago eventually led to me asking these questions but I thought it would be better to start a separate thread so people can see the topic! In the previous thread people suggested everything was fine and I was to let them sort it out but now my Mum suggested that Toffee could be a weak chipmunk from the litter. Help!  :help:

If they aren't actually fighting then you really have nothing to worry about......I've been breeding Chippies for the last 5 years and this is normal behaviour.....They are like people and all have different personalities...Some are as bold as brass..others quiet......some play one day and then won't the next.......I've had females tell the male to bugger off others just sit and let him "go through the motions" although he isn't really mating......   Toffee will be picking up that you are worried and she will react to your feelings so RELAX........You really only need to worry if he really hurting her and it doesn't sound as if he is......    My Fidget would carry on eating while the male was trying to mate her...was quite funny to watch  :icon_biggrin:

Yes DayleC is right. If they are not fighting there is nothing to worry about. They will sort it out between themselves. She will get fed up of him and tell him of eventually or he will get tired and give up. How long for have they been living together? ???
My male did that  >:Dfor few days after we put them together for the first time but after few days he realized that it is his new housemate and he stopped. And when he tried again she just got a bit peed of with him and told him off.  :nono:He did learn very quick.  ;)

They were moved in together on Friday afternoon. There hasn't been any fights since other than Cookie telling Chippy off!  ;D
I'm glad there's nothing to worry about!  :happy7:
