Cage finally set up!
« on: June 03, 2010, 11:30:10 PM »
It's been a year since I bought the panels from eBay and finally I got my act together and had someone help me out to get it set up!  :icon_cheers: :icon_cheers:
The aviary is in the shed and is 6 by 4 foot (plus a little extra), 6 foot high.
I've got a small porch with a hatch and over the next couple of days will be installing shelves, ropes, next boxes, hanging baskets, platforms, bark, lighting etc.
I also made sure wire was on the inside but I've still got to secure the wire a bit better.
I hope to get a couple of chippies this weekend if all goes well!  :icon_thumleft:
Here are a couple of pictures, you can't really see how big it is as there isn't much room in the shed to take a proper photo:

This is the extra area which the hatch opens into.. was thinking of putting a shelf there for the food bowl and maybe a nest box opposite :)

This is the hatch :D

That does look well made  :icon_thumleft:
I reckon they will love it. What are you using on the ground? or are you leaving it?
My dads got 2 cages in his garage, and he's now considering linking one through to an outside cage. It never ends once you start lol.
Cant wait to see some pics of them in it  :D

Put the bark down and got a beech branch in there.
ALso secured the nest box and a rope  :icon_thumleft:
Need a bit of advice though...
How do I go about securing platforms, shelves etc but not permanently (so I can change them around)
how do you all do it? :)

Sorry when I wrote that I knew what I meant but when I read it again it does not say what I meant it to say.(try again)
If you have a thin plank of wood/branch wedge it at 45/50% across the corners of the cage and use staples on the outside through the mesh into the ends of the wood making sure you catch the wire in the staple.Any tubes will do as they just love exploring them, I was lucky and got some old drain pipes from a house being demolished.

hey,
i've ended up buying 5 shelves for £17 pound on ebay (cheaper price as used Best Offer)
They looked decent size and will attach to the mesh by washers.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SET-3-MEDIUM-SHELVES-FANCY-RAT-CAGE-LEDGES-/370163661006?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Pet_Supplies_Small_Animals&hash=item562f7938ce#ht_1905wt_1051  I paid £7.65 for this

and

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/18-LARGE-CORNER-SHELVES-SUGAR-GLIDER-DEGU-CAGES-/370165007732?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item562f8dc574#ht_1926wt_1051    £9.35

15% saving on each :)

Its looking fantastic! Not sure what you could add tbh  :icon_scratch: Do they dig in their bark much? Maybe they might like a digging box of soil to hide their nuts in? My pair love theirs  :love3:
