Yes he should. They aren't weaned from mum until 6 weeks old, they start eating solid food about a month old. They should be at least eight weeks old before leaving their mother. He was 6 weeks old exactly when you got him from the pet shop, only just weaned. How is he with eating? and does he use a water bottle ok? build nests? these are all things they learn from watching their mother. He is more active now? It may be he is traumatised from being removed from mum and siblings so soon maybe these babies were pulled from the mother and hand-reared  :( Did you see the mother?

yes he's eating fine when we bought him he was eating the same food that we got from pets at home.

thats funny you say that because the first night we was worried that it wasnt working or something but now he's fine with it.

i think he's building nests because for the first time today i saw him with a huge mouthfull of shredded paper and take it to his little house as seen in pics.

and yes he's alot more active now geting very used to us, we let him out and run aound the room for about an hour yesterday with alot of trouble to get him back in any tips on that by the way?

whats the best way of picking them up or should i not even consider that at this point? he will happilly sit still and let us stroke him now too.

No when we bought him there was 3 in total my little one in a fish tank by its self and another 2 babies in another small tank, most animals in there were in fairly small containers and stuff is this something i should maybe think about reporting? if so who to?

I'm sure now he is eating well and is using the water bottle correctly now and making nests he should be ok. I wasn't sure how much he may have learn't from mother so was alittle worried about how he would cope with using a bottle. Good he is active now much more like a Chippie should be.

It can be difficult to get Chippies back in the cage, some will go in without much difficulty others will cause you problems. I had some wild ones escape a few times and they went behind cupboards and bookcases and hide for ages and it was very hard catching them. With wild ones we used thick gloves and a net. Once in the net we grabbed hold of the Chippie wearing the thick gloves and then quickly ran to the cage. These Chipmunks were especially wild, some of my first ones which were from pet shops. With less wild Chippies but still ones not keen on going in themselves i still used a net or put food in a small animal carrier and waited for the Chippie to go in which most will investigate they are usually very curious. I had a few who would return to the cage themselves. Alot of Chipmunks don't like being picked up, i'd use gloves for now if you pick him up incase he bites. Some very tame ones are ok with being picked up for short periods. I can pick up Hermione's babies without gloves to remove them out of the safety porch. I don't hold them though, they feel uncomfortable being picked up if not quick.

Poor babies the pet shop doesn't sound one of the good ones. I think the R.S.P.C.A. you can report too. The R.S.P.C.A. and police shut and prosecuted a pet shop near me.
