Homemade toys
« on: July 03, 2010, 09:20:20 AM »
I've just completed my new chipmunk cage (see the thread below this) but now have the problem of filling the space with toys. I'm a photography student so it goes without saying I don't have much money. I was wondering if you guys would mind sharing a few ideas for money saving toys. Apologises if there are already similar threads.

As chips are naturally curious anything will entertain them for a while try throwing in an odd worn trainer the smell won't bother them but hey will bury seeds under the tongue and rip out the inner lining for their nest.
Toilet tubes and paper towel tubes are always welcome especially if they are filled with hay and nuts...old margarine tubs/pot noodle tubs with holes cut through the corners or just go gathering in you neighbours gardens, rose cuttings are good for them as they will eat the dying petals and chew the bark off the branches, tubing of any sort for them to run through I have an old tumble dryer flexi-tube hung from the roof and they love it.

:hello2: Hi, You can even hang up a couple of pairs of large socks, my chips love going in and out of them, and they enjoy putting there nuts in, and sometimes they sleep in them if not in there nest box. CHEAP.

Hi

some good old fashioned branches keep them entertained and certain ones they love to chew but don't use Yew and I think Willow branches too.  :icon_thumleft:

Ash, Oak, Beech, Sycamore and Pine are all OK and usually in most woods or parks.  :hello:
I currently own 10 Chipmunks (Alvin & Britney, daughter named them) Lady Gaga, Florence and Billy nibbles , Mr Bo Jangles & Nina, Philly, Oliver, Pixie , 1 Terrier (Candy), 1  Guinea  Pig ( Fudge ), 1 Rabbit (Lucy), 3 fish and 2 Zebra Finches( Mr & Mrs Finch).

shelves have always gone down well with mine. They like to sit on them and get a good view of their surroundings. You can put them at different levels.

I picked up some cone shaped hanging baskets from Poundland(£1 each), put a little straw in them and my little bunch love hanging around them. On a warm night they even sleep in them  :sleepy2: .

You could go to the main site and go to the toys section and at the bottom there is a homemade toy. http://super-chipmunks.co.uk/toys.php and scroll to the bottom :)
