Cage floor
« on: July 13, 2010, 05:21:31 PM »
Hi everyone  :)

When i first got my chipmunks and cage i used wood shavings on the base of the cage but they just went everywhere and got dragged around the house on the bottom of people socks ect!  :P

So then i tried wood cat litter pellets but they still make a big mess Lol

I dont mind hoovering like evryday but it gets abit annoying :P

Any suggestions of things i could do to stop them knocking it all out the cage or any other materials i could use inside???

Thanks  ;D

Liam

First off get some planks up to 8" wide and cut them down to place around the sides of the cage at the bottom which will stop them throwing things out. Next try something a bit more substantial like bark chippings. or you could do the best thing and build an outdoor aviary if you have the room  :icon_flower:

hi
i agree, chipmunks are better outside in an avairy. they would have more space to excercise, also space for digging, as they love to dig. theyalso get the benefit of natural sunlight which they need. we only put our chippies in one of those pets at home cages if one of them is taken ill.
owner of 5 chippies, 1 king charles cavalier, 2x ferrets, 1 cat, 1x amazon parrot, 1x cockatiel, 1x gerbil

My indoor aviary is bare except for their nut shell mess they make which I sweep/hoover out a couple times a week. Most of my floor space is taken with a big plastic storage tub full of soil (2/3bags of soil I think went into it). They use that to go the loo in and hide their nuts in  :icon_biggrin:
