Chippies for Sale
« on: October 03, 2008, 09:25:35 PM »
Hi,

Is there anyone who would like to take in 2 male chippies? They are 6months old and tame. Unfortunately the males out number the females and I do not think they are going to get on for much longer.

I live in Newport, South Wales.

Hi Jcoombes,

I would be prepared to bring them to you if you want? I would rather take the drive and know that they are being looked after.

I will have to find a suitable cage to keep them in for the journey, and would have to be either a Saturday or Sunday because of work commitments.

Would sooner rather than later be ok for you as I would want to do it before they start to hibernate?

hi there
I live in Cardiff and have been looking for Chipmunks everywhere. I currently have 4 chinchillas which are spoilt to death, I have loads of room and a large Cage.

I am wondering do you still have your chippies or could put me in touch with a local breeder.

many thanks

Hi Holly,

I do still have the 2 males. They are 7 months old now and are fully grown. I only live in Newport so would be ideal if you would like to take them. I hope you dont mind me asking, but could you tell me how big the cage is? They live in a fairly big aviary at the moment so they would not like being in a cage too small.

the first two piccies are one of the cages i hope to get after christmas would like your feed back on them if they are suitable, because some times you can buy cages that the pet shop say are suitable and when you get them home you find alsorts of problem.

the last picture is of the cage i have for them at the mo it may not be suitable what to you think????

Hi Holly,

Thanks for the piccies, your boys are gorgeous! The smaller cage that you have is definately too small and personally I feel that even the 2 pictured are too small. Chipmunks are extremely active and like to run and jump about all day. I have seen chipmunks in a cage that size before, in a pet shop I really should name, and they were all in a manic depressive state just backflipping in one spot. It was not nice to see  >:(

Nate gives very good advice in the main page of this site about size, contents and materials of an aviary. Yes it does take up more space but is definatley worth it for healthy happy chipmunks.  ;D

This is a picture of my aviary:

Hi Holly

They do like a lot of room, I only have indoor chipmunks, and all but one aviary is floor to ceiling in height. They are quite small animals, but boy do they make use of space, I think mine would start to get depressed if they could not come out for their run every day. Most of the time chippies are very active, like little fury racing cars, very agile, excellent climbers and good jumpers. When mine are in their aviaries they seem to prefer to be up high, even though they are supposed to be ground feeders.

Perhaps if you have the room you might consider building an aviary in the corner of your room, it may work out cheaper than buying one.

Hi Holly,

Have you had any thoughts on building your own aviary? My chippies have been behaving very well but its come to the point where I dont want to risk leaving them all together any longer. I am planning to separate them today, as long as I can find all the bits to put my indoor cage back together!!  ??? The cage although big is not something I would plan to leave them in for too long.

Please let me know if you are still interested as I will have to find another home for them.
