How cute is this!
« on: April 05, 2010, 02:39:32 PM »
We let Squidgy out this morning and she was so funny rubbing herself on the carpet so I made a video of it to show you all.
She is very itchy bless her and I think the carpet takes the itch away.
Not sure the video will work or not.

That is so comical!  :toothy4: You don't have moments like that with outdoor chips.

Well, Squidgy does it because she is feeding the little ones and she is very itchy. Gubey does do it sometimes but not very ofter.
I just love watching them doing it. It's so funny.

Both of mine do this all the time! I think they have scent glands which are activated when they rub and do this to "mark their territory".

Mine love fluffy fabrics and so are always rubbing on blankets, clothes and carpets. Chip does it on the windowsill as well... she also licks the windows.  :dontknow:

I love it!

Cool. Hyper chipmunk. One thing that I wonder about? Im afraid to let mine out. I have 2 males. Im only new to chippies since Feb. How do you manage to get them back in their aviary? Im building a huge indoor one at the moment :hello2: I let one out before, Woody, and it took me 2 hours to put him back in! :icon_scratch:. Is there a trick to it?? I would love to let them out. I Know all about keeping the door locked to my room and windows closed. But getting them back into there aviary??????  :dontknow: Im at a loss.

I remember the first time I let wag out, he was so busy exploring the countertops that he mis-judged a jump and landed in a pot of water, bless him he was soaked through!  :sign10: He kept rubbing himself all over my rug to dry himself off  ;D

If I have to get wag back into the cage I've learnt to use mealworms (his addiction) to lure him in! I just hold one and get him to climb on me and walk over to the cage, when I put it in there he follows it and I can just shut the door. Candy is a different matter, I don't think I could get her in the cage myself, she's still too nervous for me to go near her at the moment, but I find if I get wag in she will just follow suit.  :toothy4:

I used to let Squidgy and Gubey out together the same time untill we had an accident. They chased each other all the time till Squidgy hit the telly cabinet and she nocked herself out for about a minute. We got very worried that she hurt herself but she came over and was fine. Since then we don't let them out together. We let them out and when they are ready they go back by themselfs. When you let yours out for the first time it will take a bit longer because they are not used to the place and they just want to explore. The more you let them out the better they get and they will go back because they love their home.

I got a question similar to Alan's and that is when can you let the chipmunks out when you have got them? Havn't got any yet but when I do how long should they stay in the aviary before they are allowed to explore the room?

We had Gubey for about 3 days when we let him out for the first time and he went mad. It was so funny to watch him running around like a mad man. I don't think there is a set time that you should let your chipmunk out.
